Darren Fox and Philippa Hayward

The Penny School Gallery is proud to introduce two emerging artists, Darren Fox and Philippa Hayward.
this could be anywhere>>> provides a platform for thought provoking paintings and prints of alternative landscapes and urban scenes.

this could be anywhere>>> provides a setting for the two artists to establish the direction in which their work is taking them. Although the two started from a similar point in their early careers, their direction and destination are now rather different.

Darren is a painter who has recently moved to Brighton and has made it the focus of his work. He explores the environment and how an audience perceives it. He is interested in the visual connotations of the space we inhabit and explores aesthetics of space and the clichéd imagery surrounding it.

Philippa documents run-down locations is her paintings and prints that allow a different viewpoint to these settings often being the last record of these sites before they are destroyed or restored.

Both artists graduated from the newly established Southampton Solent University, Darren in 2005 and Philippa in 2006. Since graduating both have been involved in The ArtSway Gallery Open exhibition, 2005/6. They have shared a similar interest in the environment as a visual subject matter and have supported each other in their work. Darren, a practicing artist in Brighton is also involved in Brighton-based organisation Fabrica. Philippa has continued her studies onto Winchester University, for a Masters in Cultural & Arts Management.
